Some wildly talented people made a beautiful cover for my book and I finally get to share it today.
I started working on Beyond Canning, in the most preliminary stages, almost right after I left NYC. I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a few “I wish I could have written this book in New York” moments early on. It was silly stuff that came in moments of frustration, like in NYC I knew exactly where to go to pay way too much for out of season rhubarb when I really needed it. Those moments got fewer and more far between with time and completely went away when we were able to secure Grace Stufkosky to photograph the book.
She lives a little over an hour from me, her style could not be a better match for me, she’s great at what she does, and her chickens hung out with us while we shot the book. I was happy and proud to have a local Arizona photographer shoot my book too! Oh, and those lemons, she picked them right off her backyard tree to style this shot.
All the recipes in the book, save for literally just few, are accompanied by an original photo shot by Grace that is just as beautiful as this cover photo of Gochugaru preserved lemons. I feel so lucky to have that! The design team at Quarto and my editor Thom did such an incredible job making sure I had a cover that looks great and really fits the book’s personality (and mine too!).
Some of you know that the book is already available for pre-order because you’ve already placed your order. I’m sending virtual thank yous and hugs! If you have already pre-ordered, save your receipt! I have an awesome partnership in the works that I’ll be sharing really soon to provide an opportunity for folks who have pre-ordered to win a bunch of the awesome products that I recommend in the book. You may know this already, but pre-orders are super-important!
This definitely won’t be the last time I’ll be teasing you with sneak-peaks from the book before the February 1 release date. If you don’t already, follow along on instagram at @autumnmakes with the hashtag #beyondcanning. Happy Friday!
