apricots-jerome

Last month, I spent some time in Arizona visiting my boyfriend’s family. I took too many pictures of desert plants (see below), found a town on a hill filled with apricot trees (see above), and was lucky enough to walk outside and pick figs for breakfast more than once. I’ve been catching up on my internet since I’ve been back, so along with the pictures from my trip, here are a few things I’ve been loving around the web lately:

A no-fuss summer cake from Lottie + Doof

A savory-sweet fennel, apple, and rhubarb shrub from Reclaiming Provincial

DEEP FRIED BEETS!!! from Good. Food. Stories

A super classy stone fruit sundae from Cookie + Kate

These curry roasted almonds from Sprouted Kitchen, which I made with some odds and ends of nuts that I had in my cupboard

This simple gooseberry crumble from London Bakes

A gorgeous layer cake from Brooklyn Supper made with fresh raspberries

And a handful of things I’ve been up to elsewhere:

Some really cool science goes into storing apples so they can stay in New York greenmarkets all season. I wrote about it for Modern Farmer.

I made 3 berry milkshakes (one has gin!) for Serious Eats.

The fantastic new-ish site The Toast was kind enough to publish a few of my poems.

Kelly and I just released our 25th podcast together! What can you get us? An itunes review. (wink, wink. but, really!)

Ohhhh, the Boyd Hotel in Jerome! I loved that little town – and AZ in general. You’re giving me happy flashbacks!

I love the colors in these photos–dusty rose, brick red and faded teal. And I love the mountains in the second to last shot… It looks like someone covered all but the tops and left them out to fade in the sun 🙂
